The Metamorphosis
I designed this dust jacket and book cover to be interactive, the removal of the dust jacket acts out the famous first sentence of the novella: “As Gregor Samsa awoke one morning from uneasy dreams he found himself transformed in his bed into a giagantic insect…”
Dust jacket
The dust jacket depicts Gregor asleep, unaware of the transformation that will be take place. The window shows a crescent moon, a die-cut, which shows the yellow of the book cover below it. The die-cut indicates to the reader that there is something underneath to be seen, encouraging the removal of the dust jacket.
Book cover
The book cover is styled very similarly to the dust jacket, the primary difference is that in the place of Gregor’s human form, the reader is presented with his new body.
